The arch of the tongue barrel has a particular flattened shape which provides optimal space for the tongue. Many horses react to this with increased abandonment and increased chewing. However, this bit is also very suitable for players, those horses who try to slip their tongue over the bit, since the bow effectively prevents them from doing so. This mouthpiece is therefore perfectly suited to horses who have difficulty tolerating conventionally shaped bits due to the pressure exerted on the tongue and who react in particular by tightening their head. The Tandem bit is used with a single pair of reins. It develops pressure on the muzzle, the branches of the lower jaw and the neck. By pulling harder on the reins, the rider even obtains a slight lifting effect of the bit. This bit is particularly suitable for horses who are too sensitive to withstand the effect of a real bit in the mouth, but who also cannot be ridden with a hackamore.
