The double snaffle bit allows the horse's mouth to be relaxed more easily by transmitting commands more gently. Unlike the single curb bit, which acts on the palate, a sensitive part of the horse's mouth, the double curb bit acts on the tongue without causing pain. The strength of the bit depends on the thickness of the barrel.
